Rest, Restore and Renew

Winter is a time for stillness. In nature some animals go into hibernation in the winter and though not as extreme we too need to ‘hibernate’ before we can restore our energy for the year ahead.

By being still we restore our energy, quiet our mind and find peace. Paradoxically we tend to go into high gear in the run up to the festive season wearing ourselves out with endless shopping (normally with our adrenals on high alert) and of course lots of celebration.

As much as giving and enjoyment are good things, moderation seems to be a word not always put into practice. So January can see us experiencing burnout with a slump in energy and even depression setting in as our system collapses after a long period of burning the candle at both ends.

So what better time to restore your energy? In fact it’s generally more vital now than ever. Even if you have duly listened to your body and escaped the mad rushing around, the winter months call for us to be still and quiet. Just as at night we sleep to restore our energy for the next day, in the winter season we slow down and ‘sleep’ to restore our energy for the year ahead.

It’s the ultimate Yin time of year. Our energy turns inward with our pace coming down to the deepest level.

The WATER element with associated organs of the bladder and kidneys belong to the winter season. From a TCM point of view the bladder is associated with our autonomic nervous system and the kidneys store our Vital Essence. When these organs are out of balance then we can feel depleted, burnt out, but on edge constantly with a sense of fear looming over us – ‘Wired but Tired’.

Issues with the lower back, ears, fatigue, anxiety and the nervous system are indications that there is an imbalance with the WATER element.

In this workshop we will explore the WATER element through Restorative Yoga, Dao-In, Qi Gong, Pranayama and Meditation - recharging you for the year ahead.

What to Expect:

You will gain knowledge of TCM 5 Elements and energy exercises for this time of year through experiential mind/bodywork and some discussion. Since the WATER element is the ultimate Yin you can expect a very deep but strong workshop to set you up for the year ahead, ending with a Yoga Nidra meditation to strengthen your whole system!

  • In depth information about the WATER element with associated meridians and acupressure points, accompanied with handouts
  • Lifestyle and nutritional information related to the WATER element

  • Dao-In and Qi Gong energy exercises for the winter season
  • Seasonal Yoga Asanas (poses)
  • Meditation to bring a sense of calm
  • Short shiatsu swap working on the nervous system (optional)
  • Yoga Nidra to strengthen your whole system

  • Social break for tea and snacks (provided)
